The Baylor Scott & White Clinical Informatics Fellowship is a two-year, ACGME-accredited program offering a unique blend of practical experience in clinical informatics, high-quality didactics, and strong faculty and administrative support.

The fellowship is based in Round Rock, TX, a suburb within the booming Austin, TX metropolitan area, and offers a hybrid remote option. This flexible arrangement allows fellows to engage in both on-site and remote learning and work experiences, including online graduate coursework in biomedical informatics.

The fellowship is intended to provide physicians with skills and experience important for leadership roles such as Chief Medical Information Officer, Chief Health Information Officer, or Chief Laboratory Information Officer.

We welcome residency graduates from all specialties who will be board-eligible or board-certified prior to beginning fellowship training. Upon completion of the program, fellows will be eligible for board certification in Clinical Informatics. Additionally, there may be opportunities for fellows to combine Clinical Informatics training with another specialty fellowship at Baylor Scott & White, offering a diverse and comprehensive training experience.

As the largest not-for-profit health care system in Texas and one of the largest in the United States, Baylor Scott & White serves 41 counties through 53 hospitals, more than 1,300 access points, more than 7,100 active physicians, more than 59,000 team members and the Baylor Scott & White Health Plan.

Curriculum

About the program

Over the course of the fellowship, fellows will complete informatics rotations that embed fellows within a variety of informatics teams at BSWH. Under the guidance of program faculty, fellows will learn and apply informatics skills in the complex business and clinical environment of a large health care system.

Fellows will take ownership of meaningful informatics projects and will have the opportunity to participate in the evaluation, design, and implementation of health information technologies. Fellows will be required to pursue one or more academic research project(s), the results of which will be disseminated through publication or presentation at academic or professional conferences.

The fellowship includes fully funded enrollment in the Oregon Health and Science University clinical informatics graduate certificate program, a comprehensive didactic curriculum tailored for health care professionals.

Fellows will be encouraged to remain active in their primary specialty, up to 20% of the time, during their fellowship. This clinical experience is designed to be flexible and will be tailored to each fellow’s career goals and interests.
