No online tool can take the place of a conversation with your doctor. This symptom checker isn’t meant to diagnose a medical condition, but it can point you to the most appropriate place to receive care so you can start feeling better as quickly as possible.

Should I visit the ER?

Some symptoms are serious enough that you should go straight to the ER or call 911 to get help immediately. While many symptoms can indicate a medical emergency, some of the more serious symptoms include:

  • Breathing difficulties
  • Chest pain or pressure
  • Facial drooping, weakness on one or both sides of the body, and slurred speech (symptoms of a stroke)
  • Severe allergic reactions that lead to facial swelling, fainting and breathing difficulties
  • Severe burns or bleeding
  • Severe vomiting or diarrhea
