Biography
Dr. Melvin Simien is a dual board-certified gastroenterologist and internal medicine physician as well as an advanced therapeutic endoscopist who believes in utilizing his unique skillset to optimize his patient’s health and well-being. After graduating from LSU Medical School in Louisiana, Dr. Simien completed his internal medicine residency at Methodist Hospital in Dallas, TX. He then completed his GI fellowship at UTMB in Galveston, TX and continued on for a sub-fellowship in advanced therapeutic endoscopy under the mentorship of world-renowned experts at GI Associates in Milwaukee, WI. His interests include Barrett’s esophagus, inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), hepatobiliary disorders of the bile duct and liver, pancreatic diseases such as pancreatic cysts, pancreatitis, pseudocyst management, pancreatic necrosis management, gallstone and pancreatic stone diseases and advanced tissue resection for large tumors/polyps of the GI tract to name a few. He has extensive training in interventional endoscopy, including endoscopic mucosal resection (EMR), endoscopic ultrasound (EUS), endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP), endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD), peroral endoscopic myotomy (POEM) for Zenker's, achalasia and gastroparesis, endoscopic surgery, luminal stenting for strictures, bariatric endoscopy, and endoscopic treatment of early esophageal, gastric and colon cancer. Dr. Simien was recognized by Texas Monthly as a "Top Doctor in Texas Rising Star" for 2023.
