What is GERD?

Commonly referred to as heartburn, gastroesophageal reflux disease, or GERD, occurs when acid and other fluids from your stomach frequently back up into your throat. This condition is called acid reflux.

Left untreated, GERD can cause inflammation, irritation and swelling of the esophagus. This can lead to ulcers, bleeding, narrowing of the throat, or changes in cells that could lead to cancer

Transoral incisionless fundoplication can be used along with other procedures, including robotic-assisted surgery, to treat hernias and other conditions.
