Level I
Level I newborn nurseries provide routine care for babies born after 35 weeks who can breathe, eat, and maintain their body temperature on their own.
Level II
Level II special care nurseries provide services to infants born after 32 weeks who may need short-term support breathing or babies who need additional help to heal and grow before going home.
Level III
Level III NICUs provide advanced and comprehensive care for mild to critically ill babies and premature babies of all gestational ages, including sustained life support and access to a full range of pediatric subspecialists.
Level IV
Level IV NICUs provide the highest level of complex, comprehensive care to babies of all gestational ages, including advanced life support services and sophisticated surgical and imaging capabilities.
